After a first game 9-2 defeat,

Who would have thought the 2nds would compete,

But lead by Captain Will,

and with sometimes superior skill(!),

Promotion was won even after that 9-2 defeat.

Great season guys, contributions from everyone at key times and a great team spirit.

A few individual mentions;

Will, great captain, thanks for stepping up, lets hope we can persuade you to stay on..

Jamroz, 34 goals, and could have been many more except for an extended Christmas hangover!

On a cold October night I first met this ladies crew

But what lay ahead I don’t think that anyone really knew.

A character stepped up that was full of big smiles

And descended on Wilsthorpe with all his training files.

As Marie, Kath, and Amanda too

All stood in anticipation at what I'd get them to do.

A new style of coaching may have given them a fright

But it was all Ok as there wasn’t a single cone in sight.

As the weeks went by several stars did appear

That our opponents ...

2 starting players missing from the line up due to being unavailable but thanks to 3 2nd XI players and young Lizzy we put together a squad of 13.

The 1st game against Phoenix this season saw Derby win by just 1-0 but that was not going to be repeated today.

1st half goals from Taran, Amanda, Lizzy & Anna saw a 4-0 half time lead for Derby but Coach Taylor made it clear there were a lot more goals available in the 2nd half by ...

Burton 0 - 3 Derby Asterdale

This match was do or die! Lose and our future lay ahead of us like a bleak, badly kept, one lane farm track to nowhere. Win and we would keep alight the flame of hope and the chance to stay in the division we truly belong in.

With a treacherous start, the Derby defense did well not to concede a goal in the first half an hour after a gruelling onslaught from the Burton offense. Solid as ever Hills, Gill and Sue worked doggedly to block the dangerous strikes ...

At last Derby can now relax and enjoy their remaining end of season fixtures after securing the Derbyshire League Championship today against Ilkeston, winning 4-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Anna Neilson.

Ladies 1st XI indoor squad finished this season in style by winning the “Top 3 Round Robin Tournament” on Tuesday at Belper Leisure Centre.

The 1st of their 2 games saw them face Belper in a very high tempo affair, but thanks to the excellent defensive combination of Captain Amanda Petrie and Marie Dymond most of Belper’s early efforts were snubbed out with superb calmed assurance. At the other end it was left to Anna Neilson to bag another 3 goal haul and Cpt Amanda Petrie to slot home ...

Easter Saturday saw Matlock play their catch up game against Staveley with a final score of 2-2, a perfect result for the Ladies 1st XI.

This result means that a win away at Ilkeston on Saturday will see Derby become Derbyshire Champions and we need your help.

We all know that having support on the sidelines has a massively positive effect on those playing and as a club It would be great to show a fellow Derbyshire side just what a united club ...

Ladies Finish Belper Indoor League Fixtures with 4-0 win over Rolls Royce.

With only a bare squad of 5 available tonight and with the league already won, Derby’s approach to the game was at times perhaps a little too relaxed, but they still ran out 4-0 winners in this final league game.

From the off it was Royce’s who caused all the problems and it was down to keeper Gill Howarth to keep Derby in the match during the early exchanges with a string of fine saves.

But Derby did eventually ...

The previous 2 weeks had seen Derby drop points for the 1st time this season and the trip to Ashbourne was going to be a true test of their character with this must win game. With a total change in approach to the pre-game the relaxed atmosphere of the changing room and warm up was a gamble but it paid off with great results.

After a good few weeks of silence, in ways of match reports from the first team, they are now back to cover the last game.

With the season bascially over in ways of promotion, this was a game for pride and to at least play at the level we are capable of. However, as per usual we underperformed as unit. This has been a problem throughout the 2nd half of the season. Another recurring theme of the 2nd part of the season was the no show of Nick leaving us with 12 players instead of 13. Following last week destruction of Burton confidence was very high prior to the match but there was also an undercurrent of some fear as it was Staveley that almost won the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

We went into the game with Burton after having a weeks rest in the league were the results went against us, like Burton winning to put them 7 points a head and South Notts drawing to put them 5 points ahead, with 3 games left.

So we went into the game knowing only a win will do, and so it was to be. With Matt Brennan scoring a goal in the first half from free play and Jon Hulland scoring in the second half from a penalty flick.

Next week we are at home to a rampant Belper 5 who are ...

Headache? tense nervous headache? you've obviously been watching the 2nds again!

Well we did it again, made things very difficult for ourselves but came away with a 2-1 win at a very blustery Buxton. To be fair this was never going to be easy as Buxton usually play well at home, no doubt helped by playing on one the bumpiest and hardest pitches in the league. Based on the aches and pains as I type this I think if I had to play on that pitch every other week I'd have retired years ago (though ...

This week - Wolverick 1 - 2 Derby

It has taken me a week to find the words to explain how well the second team is doing at the moment and today's match sees us going from strength to strength.

Star of the show last week, Sarah, slotted two through their goal keeper's apertures (is this word too much?) and played out of her socks regardless of the fact that she was nursing a two- bottles -of -wine hangover!

This week Derby played Old Silhillians who are 3rd in the table just above us. After the way the Derby 3rd’s have played over the last 2 weeks I was confident that we could challenge if not win this match. Unfortunately this was not to be. Despite starting strongly in the match it was Old Sillz who opened the scoring. After this, Derby started to make more and more mistakes, failing to pass accurately, strongly or quick enough thus giving Old Sillz more and more chances. By half time Old Sillz ...

Burton 2nd XI 0 - 10 Derby Asterdale 1st XI

As the news filtered through that the winners of the Derbyshire League this season would be awarded with automatic promotion into the Midlands feeder divisions, the feeling in the dressing room prior to the match was one of absolute celebration. No further motivation from coach Taylor was needed as Derby set out to put away another opposition in their relentless march onwards towards the anticipated League Championship.

They say the sign of a good team is that they can win even when they are playing badly - on todays performance we must be a fantastic side because we scaped a 1-0 win against a Worksop side who pushed us all the way and never really let us get into our stride. Our passing was consistently poor (hands up from the Captain leading from the front on that one!) Derby came out a little nervous but started to settle down about 10 minutes into the game, soon after we won a short corner which Derek struck although the keeper saved it, it came straight back to him for Derek to put it in the back of the net.
It was with some trepidation that we travelled down to the notably difficult to find Norman Place road pitch for a 3pm start against Sikh Union Coventry. Our cause was not going to be aided by the fact that Coventry City were playing at home in the FA Cup. However our largest set back turned out to be our goal keeper Paul Webb who was still asleep at our meet time. Fortunately for us the umpires were even later than us and we started the game having had ample practice.

As with last weeks' game against Corby we never really got going in the first half and despite dominating possesion we only had Sunny's well taken goal (helped as Richard blocked the keeper's line of vision) to show for our efforts, and but for a smart piece of keeping from Lee, we might have matched last weeks 1-1 scoreline.

Saturdays’ fixture saw Derby without 6 starting line up players and the visit of 4th place Ashby was not the game we needed today.

Right from the off Ashby stated just how they were to approach the whole game in a manner more befitting of an Ice Hockey Game rather than a Field Hockey one. The physical nature of the game was unfortunately not addressed by the appointed umpires until far too late in the game leading to a very scrappy stop-start match.

The goals scored (1 – 1) where almost ...

This was always going to be a tough game. But after the last two weeks we went into the game with some hope of getting something.

With some decent hockey being played by both teams, but with an ex-Derby 1st team keeper in goals for Belper we were going to find it hard to score which was the case and we never managered to despite some reasonable shorts and against other teams and keeper would have gone in. This is only the second game this season that we haven't managed to score in. We did ...

Ladies 2nd's V Phenix

This week saw our Ladies 2nds take on the very physical Phenix to battle for a safe place in the league table. Phenix played a strong attacking game from the start and often rattled DA's defence, however......our ladies were having none of it. we wanted to win this game and by golly were we going to!

With a full squad of 14 lead by captain Gill Howarth, the team were pumped up and ready to go and soon in to the 1st half the score line was opened up by Collette.

This week saw Derby play the team above us in the table. After playing Barton once in the league and once in a friendly just before Christmas we knew that this was going to be a difficult challenge. In an attempt to create more goals this week we changed the format to last years 3-4-3 format.

From the beginning Barton applied pressure on our backline. Unfortunately a well hit pass within the D from one of the Barton players rebounded off my foot and went into the goal. Unperterbed Derby ...

Derby start the game against Beeston reasonably strong not giving them any credit for being 2nd in the league. Derby scored 1st, a goal from a short corner which for Derby was a good goal but for Beeston was poor for allowing the shot to be taken in the first place as we were forced to make several passes in the D, the goal was final scored by Dan Simpson.

Beeston equalised almost straight away from some poor and probably only poor defending which lead to a short corner. Derby then seemed ...

Phew! not a game for the faint hearted. Any last hope for Ashby to sneak into the promotion spots meant that they needed to win this game and, in truth, anything less than a win for Asterdale would have effectively ended our hopes as well. Derby welcomed back Sonny from his soiree in India and I'd like to say he looked like he'd managed to keep fit on his 3 week adventure - I'd like to say, but as he came crawling off the pitch gasping for air after 10 minutes we can only envy all that beer and ...

After last weeks poor performance against Wellingborough the last fixture Derby needed was the long trip to a resurgent Buxton, who from a poor start had lost only 1 of the last 5 games.

With a full squad available coach Taylor certainly had the team fired up and made several positional changes in order to play the style of Hockey required to get a result today.

From the outset Derby pushed Buxton back with the front pairing of Nick and Neil causing all sorts of problems with their ...

Asterdale Ladies 1st XI put Belper 3’s to the sword.

Saturday saw yet another high class win for Derby Asterdale as they continue with their relentless charge at the top of the Derbyshire ladies league.

The early start on the water base at Belper was always going to be a difficult match for Derby against the counties premier club but confidence was very high under the leadership of Captain Marie Dymond and coach Andy Taylor as Derby set about putting another possible title challenger ...

Ladies smash Ashbourne with brilliant all-round performance.

With a slightly re-shuffled squad Derby set out to prove that there is true strength in depth within the ladies section during tonight’s (Tuesday 22nd) indoor league at Belper Leisure Centre.

With the unusual fixture structure throwing up a double header against one of the stronger sides in the competition, it was down to Derby to stamp their authority on the game right from the off and thanks to some outstanding finishing ...

This week the Men's 3rd's travelled to Retford to play Worksop and came away with a 2-2 draw. A slow start by Derby saw Worksop score early, but continued pressure on the Worksop goal line proved dividends as Chris Towner scored. In the second half, yet again, Worksop scored and after a long period of pressure Mike Stott covnverted a short corner to draw the game.

Man of the match this week goes to Ian McWilliams who's ability to sweep the midfield and produce inteligent passing manouvres ...

Once again, a game that needs to be forgotten. A 6-2 loss was unexpected but should serve as a wake up call that promotion this season is not certain.

We started the game strongly, and there was a strong possibilty of us getting a result from this game. However, we fell behind from a short corner. We did equalise from our own short, a strike from Ian.

Unfortunatley, like the home game we slipped 3-1 behind. Just before our 2nd goal, Andy Knight rounded the keeper only to see a Wellingborough ...
