Gilmour Sports are a field hockey website supplying all the kit and equipment you may need. I have used them frequently for purchasing club goalkeeping kit and have found them to be competitive on price with an extensive range of kit/equipment. I have only ever received excellent customer service. They have a 30 day no quibble money back policy.

I have just set up a loyalty code with them that will earn the club a 5% rebate on all purchases made ...

Mid April saw the end of a very long, snow disrupted, yet very enjoyable season… And yes, it was still all about the fun.

There was another newcomer – Sam Stalley, a very strong defender and showing lots of potential in mid field. We were also delighted to see the return of Rachel Fearn from injury.

We finished the season on more than double the points of last season. After 8 weeks in mid field, Jenny Dames’s potential as CF was recognised and she is our leading goal scorer ...

Men’s 3rd XI End of Season Report 2008/2009

The season really started for us with the summer indoor league at Mackworth College. It was a big learning curve but we certainly improved vastly over the summer. The highlight was beating our own indoor 1st team and Chestnuts straight afterwards in our final games.

Going into September and the pre-season friendlies the indoor hockey had given us a fitness advantage as we enjoyed a five game winning streak. As is normal at the beginning of ...

With the group games only lasting 16 mins it was very important that we started strongly and that’s exactly what we did.

End of season report

This season has seen a plethora of highs and lows, but ultimately we reached my pre-season target with a great win at home on the last day of the season against Players HC 4-2, ensuring Midlands league Hockey again next season.

Make no mistake this was a great achievement.

The whole feel, shape and attitude of the squad changed so much throughout the season as we all grew into a team capable of more than competing in this league.

Ok, I'll come clean up front. Newark only had 8 players. But often it's difficult to motivate yourself when playing a team with less players. Today Derby certainly suffered from that problem in the first half and were only leading 6-0 at half-time. However we knew that we needed to score as many goals as possible. With two more games to go, if we lose won of them we'll need a larger goal difference than South Notts to win the league. So with that in mind ...

With a full squad, subs and a rare bucket load of sunshine we took to the pitch knowing that the Matlock IV’s had been relegated from the league above previously but clung on to the fact that in our home game against them final whistle blew to a nil nil draw. Don’t get me wrong we weren’t expecting an easy game but like every game we play we hope to have fun and maybe score a few goals along the way!

Match vs Stavely. Lost 3-0

Well we turned up got out of the car and it started spitting with rain but thank god it stop before we started playing. The pitch was a bit like playing in a sand box which unfortunately lead to the ball being in the air quiet a bit this in turn caused lots of injuries including Sara’s very bad cut on her forehead, half the team ended up getting injured thankfully no lasting damage we live to fight another day.

Men's 3rd's vs Berkswell & Balsall Common, @ Warwick Uni, 07/03/2009

This week the men's 3rd's travelled to Warwick University to play Berkswell & Balsall Common. As Berkswell had been on a winning streak second only to our own and had just beat South Nott's the match started off nervously on our part. However it wasn't just a tough opposition that was challenging for the men's 3rd's as the pitch was very slow.
There have been encouraging signs from the 5th team over the last two or three weeks but only one point to show for its efforts. On Saturday we played Chesterfield, in front of our biggest crowd of the season and came out victorious 5-1. This was a bottom of the table encounter and as a result we have climbed above them although they have a game in hand.

We started well and played with good pace. Most weeks we have 2 or 3 Nottingham University medics playing for us, and most weeks Andy ...

First of all well done to the 4ths for taking the league title last week. I hope I can get another game with you before the season finishes.

The 5ths took on Burton 6ths at Uttoxeter today following another narrow defeat last week to West Bridgford. It was a great experience to see the shock on so many faces last week when we took the lead, just a shame we couldn't hold on. So the 5ths are in obvious need of a boost to their confidence which hopefully came today with a gutsy 1-1 draw.

Derby Asterdale 0 - Matlock VI's 1

Struggling for palyers this week the thirds were grateful to be able to play with a pair of more experienced players, Gill H and the return of the Whippet! Both of whom had played an earlier game and were still prepared to have another run around! Push back was 4pm and even this was delayed by previous game. The light wsa slowly dimming and temperature dropping. A pre-match chat with Dan ensured that players had a grasp of their role in the formation particularly ...

Derby Asterdale 1 – Coventry Sikh Union 0

The match started a bit late due to a frozen pitch which meant we were stuck on the sideline for what felt like an eternity. Despite this there seemed to be electricity in the air, with the lads on a high from last weeks match (a 4-1 away win against the league leaders) and chomping on the bit to start.

This week we welcomed back some blasts-from-the-past in the shape of Chris (Nutkins) Towner and Des (I hope I don’t soil myself) Pope.

A heavy frost on Saturday 10th Jan saw the cancellation of the women's thirds first game of the new year, much to the approval of the majority of the team, I for one cranked up the central heating and went back to bed! I think the saying has something to do with 'balls' and 'brass monkeys'!

So the 17th Jan saw the the first actual game of the second half of the season. It has to be said that this game was at a much more socialable hour, 2:30pm push-back and even the British weather had made ...

Following complaints from my team of “watered down match reports”, I thought this weeks match against league leaders South Notts deserved a greater report.

Going into the match there was some trepidation as South Notts had won every match in the league since their initial loss at the beginning of the season at our hands. We therefore knew that South Notts were hungry for revenge. This was certainly evident from the start of the match as South Notts attacked in numbers. Their efforts were ...

New season, new formation and still having lots of fun.

We started this season with a new formation. New formation = new foundation which with each week we keep building on. Half way through this season, we have drawn 3 matches and won 2. We have already got more points this season than we got for the whole of last season.

This season has provided an unusual problem for the ladies captains… too many players!!! Yet, of all the problems we could have, I’m happy with this one and ...

It was on, then it was off, then it was on again! This was a game that never nearly happened! After much to-ing and fro-ing between our Annie and Finderns two captains the game was on! Nice one Annie for not only organising our team but the opposition as well! Although in hindsight we might have been better off still tucked up in bed as the weather was awful, it was proper raining, not just drizzly splashy rain, big fat rain that soaked us all to the bone! Not a team to be put off by adverse ...

This weeks match was a 120 mile round trip to play against Northampton Lions on their new water based pitch. From the beginning it was a struggle for Derby to adapt to to the slow bouncy pitch. Quite often Northampton were able to bounce the ball over tackling sticks from Derby players. And despite camping out in Northampton's half for most of the first half Derby trailed 1-0 at half-time.

Going into the second half a tactical change was made to give Derby more fire power. Defender James ...

YIPPEE OUR SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON!!! A 3-2 Victory!

Starting with a full squad and subs Asterdale Ladies Thirds turned out in fine form (well most of us, you know who you are....Laura!)!

The sun was low in the sky making it difficult to see the ball let alone distinguishing team mates! Still Burton opted for first push back to kick the game off and Asterdale were off from the start! Intercepting the ball early on we dribbled and passed our way up to their D. Five minutes in and we ...

In what was potentially a 6 pointer match Derby played well to come out 3-2 winners over Tamworth. Everybody put in a brilliant effort. Derby led 1-0 at half time thanks to a goal by Dave Green. Goals by Sam Taylor and Jez Seer managed to secure the result. Nick Boulton was brilliant in goals and was only beaten by 2 well hit short corner strikes by one of Tamworth's specialist short corner takers. Man of the match went to Pete Chesney who set up Dave Green for the first goal and is organising ...

Saturday saw us play Players. A team who sit just above us in the table so a win was what we needed. Alas for those who may have read Andy's summary so far...You will have worked out that this was not to be.

We've had a run of bad luck so far this season so this match was not going to break the chain. In fact, it just decided to follow it with a vengeance.

We started strong...I mean very strong. Within the first 10 min's of the game we were all over the opposition but we just could ...
