Ladies 1st XI pre-season starts this weekend.

Saturday sees Derby Ladies 1st XI start their 2008/09 season with the 1st of 3 pre-season games with an away fixture at Ashby 1st XI who finished 3rd in the Leicestershire Premier League last season.

The fixture will see almost the full squad play a part and give several fringe players the opportunity to experience 1st XI hockey and push for inclusion within the team for our 1st league match in just a months time.

The great news of the return this season of Kelly after having her baby and also Sally Fenton back from University, has given the whole squad a boost. But this has also left both Marie & I with tremendously difficult selection issues to face especially with possible new formations to take into account. I am sure though that all squad members (16 on Saturday plus 2 who are unavailable) will be patient with us and understand our decisions when the time comes to making the final selection.

What we must remember is the strength in depth that is being created within the ladies section. When you consider that from a squad of 18 we will eventually get down to 13 for most league games the knock on effect of strengthening our club can only be seen as a hugely positive step forward for all.

The game is at 11:30am start and all support will be welcome.
