Men's 3rd's vs Leicester Westleigh, 14/02/2009

After a 2 week break the men's 3rd's played Leicester Westleigh, a team that beat us 3-2 earlier in the season at their place. Knowing that Derby had a point to prove the team played patiently this week and were rewarded with a deserved result. High levels of concentration from all of the Derby players meant that Derby had the majority of the possession and far more shots on target. In the first half Dave Green opened up the scoring with what is starting to become a trade mark well struck hit. Not much later Sam Taylor brought the score up to 2-0 to the home side.

Going into the second half Leicester initially took control, but Derby soon got the ball and were awarded a penalty corner. In the subsequent penalty corner Paul Nielson struck the ball straight down the middle to sneak under the goal keeper as the keeper tried to drop to the floor in time. After this Leicester had a couple of opportunities , partly due myself struggling with cramp, but never quite had passing accuracy to score.

Man of the match this week was awarded to Dave Green. The men's 3rd's now top the table with 36 points.

A Slighty Different View of Some of the Events

In the first half Dave Green opened up the scoring with what is starting to become a trade mark well struck hit turning in a fiercely struck short corner from Paul Neilson............

........In the subsequent penalty corner Paul Neilson struck the ball with such power and accuracy that even the excellent Leicester keeper failed to get to the ball.

(well that's how I saw it anyway, sounds better than sneaked under)

Sorry Paul, by using the term "sneak", I was trying to imply the delicate accuracy by which you struck that low shot. Any higher and the keeper would have had it. Good thing Pete didn't take it!
