Men's 1st vs Worksop - 27/02/2010
From Worksop's site
Derby Asterdale 8-0 Worksop 1st XI
It was men against boys as Worksop endured a seriously bad day at the office to suffer their biggest defeat of the season away at Derby Asterdale.
The tone for the game was set early on as Worksop found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening 5 minutes after a short corner was converted and a hopeful effort somehow squirmed its way home via a deflection. Other than against the league leaders, Wellingborough, Worksop had not conceded more than 2 goals in any game this season so they had every right to expect they might get back into the game. 3 more goals before half time though soon put paid to any hopes of a comeback.
The second half became a damage limitation exercise and Worksop did well to limit the hosts to just 3 more goals to give a final score of 8 without reply.
Rather than be too down beat Worksop just need to put this behind them and start again next week. It was simply a case that Worksop had a collective off day and Derby Asterdale were on fire playing the best hockey witnessed this season.. sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and admit you were beaten by the better team!

From the Atherstone website
Atherstone Adders 1st X1 2 Wellingborough 2
(M.Taylor, J.Meer)
The Adders found themselves playing a re-arranged fixture against top-of-the-table and promotion-seeking Wellingborough with memories of their previous encounter still in their minds. The visitors had demolished the Adders at the start of the season and inflicted the teams highest ever defeat of 21 - 0, so the side knew that they were in for a tough ride.
The Adders side looked much different from their previous encounter and the team produced their performance of the season as they took a hard earned point from the fixture, with a fine 2-2 draw. Wellingborough started brightly moving the ball with pace and eventually took the lead after 10 minutes. However, within 5 minutes the Adders were level, inspired by Martin Taylor in midfield.
it was Taylor who scored the equaliser following some good inter-play with Jonathan Hall. The Adders then had the audacity to go on and dominate the game against the league leaders. However, against the run of play Wellingborough managed to snatch the lead to make it 2 -1 on the stroke of half time.
In the second half it was all one way traffic as the Adders sought the equalising goal and the visitors became increasingly fustrated with being second best, and they lost concentration and took their frustration out on the umpires.
The Adders were inspired by performances from veterans Manny Alcock in goal and Ian Bennett in midfield and with Justin Hadley dominant in defence and Martin Taylor superb in midfield the Adders pushed forward and eventually equalised when Martin Taylor once again set up James Meer to score from 2 yards, and to make amends for a glaring first half miss from the same distance.
The Adders will consider themselves unlucky not to win this game but would have settled for a draw at the start of the game. They have always known that they are capable of excellent performances like this but have now to work on consistency to ensure that they happen at every game!
