Ladies 1st XI indoor squad finished this season in style by winning the “Top 3 Round Robin Tournament” on Tuesday at Belper Leisure Centre.

The 1st of their 2 games saw them face Belper in a very high tempo affair, but thanks to the excellent defensive combination of Captain Amanda Petrie and Marie Dymond most of Belper’s early efforts were snubbed out with superb calmed assurance. At the other end it was left to Anna Neilson to bag another 3 goal haul and Cpt Amanda Petrie to slot home a bullet of a drag flick to ensure a comfortable 4-1 win in this opening match.

The 2nd fixture was against next seasons Midlands opponents Ashbourne and followed on only 4 minutes after the 1st match.

In a see-saw match the lead changed hands constantly throughout the game, and but for the outstanding performances from the two goal keepers the scores would have been much higher than as they finished with Derby running out 4-3 winners, thanks to goals from Lizzy x 1, Marie x 1, Kath x 1 & Anna x 1.

Coach Taylor:

So the indoor season ends with Derby remaining unbeaten.

There have been great performances from the whole squad throughout this indoor season with goals raining in from everywhere, brilliant defensive displays including both keepers used (Lisa and Gill) and a lot of very hard work.

Amanda Petrie has without doubt led this team from the front playing a true Captains role and rising to the challenge of Captaincy with ease.

We can all now look forward to celebrating more silverware at next weeks Presentation Night.
