Ladies 3rds V Ashborne - Away 11/10/08 Empty Ladies 3rds V Ashborne - Away 11/10/08

Our first away game of the season and everyone made it to the well hidden Ashborne pitch! We had hoped to start the match with two subs however last minute drama led to Gill dropping off the goalie kit and Jo Mullis stepping up to the challenge of wearing it! Without a moan or a groan Jo donned the goalies gear and was warming up like she'd been there all season!

The first half saw some good possession on Asterdales behalf which was no mean feat as we were heavily marked by Ashborne's defence. Some good passing saw a few opportunities in the attcking D but a determined Ashborne defence wouldn't be broken. On the attack, ten minutes in Ashborne snook an unfortunate first goal past our ladies. Unperturbed Asterdale kept the pressure on, with Annie and Heather on the back line working hard to keep away the opposition's attack. Ashborne created an opportunity to score and score they did, a beautiful and quite frankly an unstoppable goal which, even our girls wanted to applaude! A short cross in front of the goal and a quick thinking lightening flick led to a 2 nil advantage.

Asterdale ladies put up a good fight with Jo Mullis having a blinding game in goals, fearless diving to the left and to the right, faster than fast reactions deprived Ashborne of at least five potential goals, although taking a one on the head, a cheeky rebound into the corner of the goal saw them go three up. A played advantage in our D shortly after saw a fouth Ashborne goal. A mainly defensive game played by Asterdale against a team higher up the league, some skillful passing saw a number of break away attacks towards the Ashborne D but full time came too soon and the final score was 4 - 0 to Ashborne. Even so a thoroughly enjoyable match with great sportsmanship on teams behalf.

Man of the Match: Jo Mullis - for stepping up to the goalie spot and making some blinding saves but also for her communication and coordination of the defence! Nice one Mullis!!!
