Mens 5ths versus Chesterfield 5ths 7/3/09
There have been encouraging signs from the 5th team over the last two or three weeks but only one point to show for its efforts. On Saturday we played Chesterfield, in front of our biggest crowd of the season and came out victorious 5-1. This was a bottom of the table encounter and as a result we have climbed above them although they have a game in hand.
We started well and played with good pace. Most weeks we have 2 or 3 Nottingham University medics playing for us, and most weeks Andy (our chief medic) brings along a new player who has not played for years. This week it was Simon Woods (Woodsy) who was obviously a bit of a class act when he played regularly. He scored one with Dave his fellow student scoring two including an outrageous goal from his mis-control. The other goals coming from Stuart, a flick after being flattened three yards out and Matt Parker in classic poacher style. Chesterfield got their consolation with about 5 minutes left. This was a well deserved win in a game that we controlled for the most part restricting Chesterfield to very few chances.
We only have one game left against the heavyweights of Beeston, a match they may need to win to be promoted. This will obviously be a good test for us but we should be able to go there and give a good account of ourselves.
Well done everyone on Saturday. Thanks as well to the support. Hope you will be renewing your season ticket.
