Derby 1 - Barton 3

A very different looking squad for various reasons competed very well against a decent Barton team. The 1st half was pretty much one way traffic with Barton pressing in numbers and Derby doing most of the defending work. Barton only managed one goal by half time and with a smal rearrangement of the team Derby started to gain more possession and pressed Barton harder after the break. Yet again Derby managed to generate pressure without converting their chances. To be fair Barton had a good defensive unit and they were able to get the better of a very young (and slightly naieve) attack, but they had no answer for Alex Nigburs flick from the edge of the area (that's how you do it!!!). Barton rounded off a difficult win for them with a classic counter attack right at the end of the game.

There was something of a clash of cultures with the older players often looking for long angular passes down the channels (counter attack) and the youngsters looking for a tighter shorter passing game (possession) in this game and sometimes the team looked a bit disjointed as a result. What was good to see though was the level of dribbling in inappropriate areas was minimal in this game.

Thanks to Jez for handling the on field captaincy while I bimbled about on the side line.

Keep up the good work lads. Off to Melton next week.

Cheers...P
