Mens 5ths v North Notts
The 5th team continued their journey into the delights of league hockey with a trip to North Notts - usually a place for a tough game, and saturday was no exception with Notts having a solid mix of experienced adults and some useful young players most of whom were in their second season of league hockey.
In the face of this Derby called for medical assistance - in the form of trainee doctors Dave and Andy the latest in an illustrious long line of Dan Martin "you look like you could hold a hoickey stick" converts. Their enthusiasm and hard work helped to keep Notts at bay for long periods, and indeed the whole of the team worked hard in defence with Josh again making some timely interceptions, as did Lee pushed in at left back in the absence of Dave Emery.
Ultimately Notts were good value for a win, 4-0 was maybe a bit harsh on the determination of the Derby effort especially Matt who had a really good game in goal, BUT if when you win the ball off the opposition you pass it back to them within 2 passes you will generally struggle to keep the score down! So that was the big learning lesson from Saturdays game - when you've worked hard to win the ball, look after it and pass to your own team - more passing practice called for and then bring on Beeston next week!
