Mens 5ths v Bridgeford 8ths
After last weeks comprehensive defeat at the hands of the mighty Derby Asterdale 4th team, saturday's game was about building confidence and a base from which to improve through the rest of the season. The 5ths welcomed Husham for his debut for the club, the captain was encouraged to pick him as he was "mint" - luckily I assumed that this was good and I wasn't proved wrong as he slotted perfectly into right midfield. Against a much more experienced side the youngsters did really well - Josh playing for the first time at centre back had their centre forward frustrated for most of the match and Dalraj continued to look a classy right back, so the defence with Paul and Dave as the experienced hands held out pretty well - ultimately conceding only 3 goals. Despite the best efforts of Husham and Simon in midfield we never really gave our forwards enough service and support, so however much Callum, Matt and Adam tried we couldn't manage to get a goal against their canny defence. Even the welcome introduction of Andy Taylor to "beef" up the forward line wasn't quite enough to get what would have been at least one goal as a reward for a great effort by all.
So in conclusion, a 3-0 loss - after 11-0 last week a move in the right direction, a really good team effort, lots of potential and a team that is only going to get better as the season progresses.

Great Bunch
Its been over 4 years since I picked up a stick in anger and I thank everyone for putting up with me.
The 5's are full of young players who if Saturday is anything to go by, will be a huge asset to the club in years to come.
It was a pleasure to play alongside them and I would certainly not be averse to maybe getting the old stick out again when possible to enjoy these players company.
Thanks,
Andy "BEEFY" Taylor
