Derby Asterdale Mens 1sts 2-2 Rolls Royce- 'Moustache Power' leads to Derby Delight Empty Derby Asterdale Mens 1sts 2-2 Rolls Royce- 'Moustache Power' leads to Derby Delight

A pulsating, 2-2 draw was played out between local rivals Derby Asterdale and Rolls Royce. Both teams were up for the game with local pride at stake, but ended up cancelling each other out. The result means Derby go into the winter break unbeaten at home this season, leaving Derby hovering above mid table.

Derby's team-were sporting their many different taches to signal the end of Movember-started the game brightly, and took the lead within the first five minutes. Up and coming talent Matt Parker, showed why he is highly rated by the club; squeezing in his shot from a tight angle. He remained lively throughout the first half and kept Royce’s players on their toes. The game proved to be an excellent spectacle of hockey; dominate defending, tough tackling and great hold up play from Dave Steadman was on offer throughout.

Although Derby dominated the first half they couldn't find another cutting edge. Martin Foster forgetting he was playing hockey, and used his feet to control the ball when clean through. Other then that blemish, Martin showed gusto in the tackle constantly dispossessing the opposition and setting up attacks. He was helped in midfield with excellent displays from Sam Taylor and captain Karl Lucas. Derby took a deserved lead into the break thanks to an excellent save from goalkeeper Rob Howarth, saving at close range.

Inspired by their first half performance, Derby continued to show attacking intent at the start of the second half, but were pegged back by a sloppy goal. Royce’s were buoyed by the equaliser and started to retain possession and put pressure on the Derby defence, which the soaked up like a sponge. Ross Richards doing an excellent job keeping Royce's England Vet quiet. Adam Walker, Ben Taylor and a man of the match performance from Tom Williams assisted in keeping the oppositions attacks to a minimum.

Derby showed any team how to counter attack perfectly to regain the lead. For a second week in succession Derby scored a contender for goal of the season. Tom Williams breaking into the area produced a reverse stick lob which sailed into the top corner. Leaving all players amazed. And spectators mesmerized. Unfortunately Derby couldn’t hold on to the lead. A rare lapse in concentration let Rolls Royce take a quick hit out and they found a player free in the box, who fired home. Both sides seemed to settle for a draw towards the end of the match- which was a fair result.

Derby wrap up their first half of the season, before the Christmas break, with a difficult game against Worksop. A win will leave them fourth. A great early Christmas present.

Any mens player interested in a Christmas night out, would be welcome next Saturday (9th December) at Saffron for a curry then beers to follow. Facebook Karl Lucas or Ben Taylor if interested for times.
