Derby Evening Telegraph Report.

A DOGGED defensive display by Derby Asterdale was not enough to help them avoid defeat away to Worksop in their last match before the mid-season break.

Having lost last season's corresponding fixture 8-1, Derby were expecting a difficult encounter and so it proved – but they had a great early chance to take the lead.

Matt Hexter broke away from the Worksop defence but shot narrowly wide and that turned out to be the last of Derby's chances.

They had to ride their luck during a torrent of Worksop attacks, captain Karl Lucas and defensive partner Ben Taylor in fine form with their tackling and positional play.

Goalkeeper Rob Howarth made a string of superb stops to earn the man-of-the-match award.

In the end, the pressure told when Worksop's Renny Myles took a pass from Graeme Robinson, created room and fired hard past Howarth.

Derby pushed hard in the closing stages but couldn't make their possession tell.
