MENS 4THS VERSUS BELPER 7THS 28 NOVEMBER 2009
Like the ladies 2nds we also remain unbeaten, and I would also like to thank our stand in keeper Ben Taylor who didn't make a string of fine saves. In fact when called into duty was looking at their right winger in space when he had a Belper man bearing down on him from 5 yards out (his words). Never mind, the only blip in an otherwise good sound performance.
Belper came as strong opposition and although rarely troubling us at the back were an excellent defensive team looking for the opportunity to spring the counter attack.
Our first goal came after about 15 minutes, unfortunately for Billy not giving him the chance to beat three men as it came to him about two feet out. Second goal came through a flowing move rounded off surprisingly well by Chris Kilburn returning after a two game absence. His cry of 'I'm on the scoresheet' probably means its his first of the season. I think this outburst may have upset our concentration as Belper almost immediately scored with a fine individual effort which also included an outrageous dummy making our keeper look the wrong way.
Only other action of note in the first half was the aforementioned CK struck the ball into the D direct from a long corner again!
The second half saw us play with better fluency and accuracy and we created some clear chances from sometimes brilliant moves. At training this week Ian introduced a drill where we aim toward the far corner for the oncoming forward to tap in if the shot does not hit the target. Time and again we did exactly as we did in practice. Only when Dale Bradley feinted to cross but instead poked in at the near post did we score our deserved third goal. I also spotted Billy in our D defending this week, no doubt sent there by Anthony.
A week off now before the top of the table clash with North Notts. Well done lads, another great performance.
