On a cold October night I first met this ladies crew
But what lay ahead I don’t think that anyone really knew.
A character stepped up that was full of big smiles
And descended on Wilsthorpe with all his training files.

As Marie, Kath, and Amanda too
All stood in anticipation at what I'd get them to do.
A new style of coaching may have given them a fright
But it was all Ok as there wasn’t a single cone in sight.

As the weeks went by several stars did appear
That our opponents would soon learn to both respect and to fear
Mika, The Spice Girls, Elvis, Take That too
Set plays that would definitely give us an edge or two

The full press was taught to improve our strong tactics
And when we applied it we all looked fantastic
All was working well as was so much more
With many unseen players now coming to the fore

With Lisa in goal blocking every attempt
Most teams went away with forwards looking well spent
A back line of Zoe with Chrissi and Val
Stopped all who would try, Belper, Ashbourne et al

The Midfield crew ran each game with such style
Playing the ball around teams with great experience & guile
Out wide there was Ali and opposite was Tash
Who played so much better for my hard earned cash!

In the centre was Kath and our leader Marie
And player of the year Donna who played with such glee
Who could forget her great goal as she ran 60 yard
With a scream at each tackle no matter how hard

With Amanda and Taran starring on each wing
A new dimension to our game they did bring
With aggression and pace Taran showed her great drive
And Amanda played better after a bottle or 5

In the centre was Anna the star of each game
With exploits this season gaining her great fame
With her goals Anna sent the team into 7th heaven
Finishing the season with goals tallying a massive 57

Others played their part from Janice through to the 2’s
All giving their all to ensure that we didn’t loose
With foreign work, babies and injuries too
The squad still managed somehow to make it on through.

The squad would have been left totally in the mire
If it wasn’t for Kelly, our wonderful Umpire.
As her bump grew and grew she still came along
Although come March I believe she’d stopped wearing her thong

She supported the team with great style and great mirth
But at the League winning game we all thought she’d give birth
Days later it happened a beautiful Girl
But she says at pre season she’ll be back to "give it a whirl."

Others came to games especially Zoes mum
Who I am sure enjoyed watching us all having great fun
Despite at one game on the floor in the rain
Was her Daughter with a dislocated shoulder in great pain.

As the last game came who would have possibly thought
11 goals we would hit with only one from a short
Goals from everywhere and playing without fear
Boy that night did we drink some beer.

The stress was all over and we finally sat back
To reflect on the year gone and ask “How did we do That”
With hard work and trust the team all stuck together
A bad line I know but “Like Birds of a Feather”

As we begin to plan for the forthcoming years
I confess that last season I did shed some tears
The pride I have in calling each player my friend
I am sure that we will stick together to the very end.

I thank you all for each pass, save and goal
You kindness to me, a real sad old soul
The changing room banter is the best I have seen
Even when we use the Boys, to quote Val “there so unclean”

Success next year is Top 5 as a must
A great squad together will play till they bust
Pre-season will be hard but so satisfying
I suppose success will mean that again I am buying

My last verse is left for my most important line
As I sit at my desk with some great Red Wine
There is no “ I ” in Team but in Friends there is 1
Something I am proud to call you all, each and everyone

Your Coach
