Ladies 2nd 6 Woodland 0

The Ladies 2nd team restarted their league games this morning after a seven week lay-off. Facing a young Woodlands team, they got off very slowly in a game that should have been put to bed in the first twenty minutes. However the enthusiasm was spoiled by inaccurate passing and loitering in posession, giving the opposition hope as they closed down quickly and tackled well.
The stalemate was broken when Val took a quick free hit on the right and Janice made an excellent run across the goalkeeper to touch home goal No 1. (Just like the old days!)
Goal No 2 came from a penalty corner when Shez found Theresa free in the D and her hard shot deflected into the top corner.
This scoreline made life easier in the second half although the team was still performing far below par.
Theresa made a good forward run to score No 3 from close in and then not to be outdone, Tracy hit a hat trick, two from close range and an excellent run across the D, with only two pirouettes, finishing with an unstoppable shot from twelve yards out. (In fairness to Lucy, one goal would have been hers if Tracy hadn't stolen it on the line.)
The pace of the game was summed up by Phil when he said he had trouble staying awake through the second half. Elly probably had the same problem.
All the attack and mid-field players received Man of the Match votes, but it was won deservedly by 'Angry Gill', the only player who seemed really up for this match.
The win maintains the 2nd team's position at the top of the table, but with much harder games coming up, the performance level needs upping to stay there.
