Ladies smash Ashbourne with brilliant all-round performance.

With a slightly re-shuffled squad Derby set out to prove that there is true strength in depth within the ladies section during tonight’s (Tuesday 22nd) indoor league at Belper Leisure Centre.

With the unusual fixture structure throwing up a double header against one of the stronger sides in the competition, it was down to Derby to stamp their authority on the game right from the off and thanks to some outstanding finishing they did just that.

The opening game saw Anna bring her outdoor form to the indoor game scoring 2 inside 5 mins of the start, but her fellow team mates were not to be out done with Lizzy (now at Leicester) scoring a further 2, Sue Ann (now at Belper) scoring a great dragged flick, Captain Amanda bagging an excellent goal and from midfield Kath also managed to finish off with 2 great strikes to enable Derby to run out winners 8-0.

The 2nd game was always going to be a tighter affair with Ashbourne now knowing what to expect from this rampant Derby team. They started very well pushing Derby onto the back foot and winning several Penalty Corners only to find keeper Lisa in good form snuffing out any real attempts on goal.

With the irreplaceable Anna now partnered up front with young Lizzy, between them they put all nerves at rest by bagging 2 goals each with Lizzy’s particularly pleasing on the eye with great finishes on both occasions.

After the half Ashbourne did get their 1st goal of the evening after a little sloppy defending but Anna soon went down the other end to put the game beyond doubt with another excellent finish to seal her hat-trick and her 5th goal of the night.

All credit to Ashbourne they wouldn’t lay down and again through a breakaway their forward managed to slip the ball under the Derby keeper for a 5 – 2 score line.

But the inevitable happened as firstly Sue Ann scored a well worked Penalty Corner and the night was finished off by Captain Amanda completing the scoring at 7 – 2.

Coach Taylor commented:

This was yet another great performance all round. I was particularly impressed with the captaincy of Amanda and the finishing of Lizzy. Its very interesting to see ex-players still playing indoors for Derby and who knows if this team continues to impress the way they are at present both indoor and outdoor, then maybe we can stop the flow of players starting their careers at Derby and then moving on to other clubs.

I commented on Saturday about the strength of this ladies team and tonight’s results just show how good the strength in depth really is. The results were well deserved being achieved even without such hugely influential players as Captain Marie Dymond in the squad.

A very happy coach AGAIN!!!

Nb. Just to let you know it was Marie’s husbands birthday tonight and she still came to support the team. Now that’s the absolute commitment I like to see from a club Captain… no time off, just there to support the club……not even a Saturday off to go and see COME DANCING!

Evil or Very Mad ........................I know everything Marie........................... Evil or Very Mad
