Burton 6ths vs Mens 4ths 31/01/09

Another league win for us against probably our strongest opposition so far. As usual we had an abundance of striking talent available including four left wingers and as usual I had to ask some of them to play in unaccustomed positions. This week the young Bradleys were willing to take up positions more suited to their old man and played crucial roles. Derby took an early lead through Anthony Crooks of course only to be pegged back soon after when our eight man attack was breached leaving the Burton centre forward the easy task of rounding the Derby sweeper and then poking the ball past Matt Lewis. Burton then had the upper hand until half time and forced several short corners.

At half time I tried to reinforce our midfield by playing five of our attack in deeper positions. It seemed to have the desired effect for a while with Derby enjoying more possession higher up the field. We regained the lead through a trademark Eddie Sanderson strike from a short corner and at this stage expected to go on to dominate. To their credit Burton forced a series of short corners, some we thought a bit dubious but we managed to hang on for an excellent victory.

We now sit top of the league in superb shape, 11 wins from 11 games. Fantastic effort lads. We have just come off the boil a bit since Christmas but we are still winning. Hopefully we will regain our fluency in the remaining games. Derek
