Mens 1sts V Ashby
This game fits nicely into the overused cliche, a game of two halves. In the first half, it was Ashby who had the upper hand, attacking for the most of the half. However, they lacked the cutting edge to take the lead. This is shown by the fact that although they had 18 short corners in the first half we still went in at the break, goalless. The fact we went into the 2nd half at 0-0 was due to the excellent perfomance of the team as a defensive unit.
The 2nd half started out with us having a change of formation with Ian playing the holding role in front of the back 3. This change helped the match sway our way. But, before we could take the lead, we had to deal with the small problem of Ashby taking the lead. Refusing to let our heads drop we fought back and earned ourselves a short of our own. From this short we showed Ashby exactly how shorts were meant to be scored. A mis-hit 1st strike, which found its way too Mark who applied the finishing touch. From our next short an Ashby defender skillfully cleared off the line with his feet, leaving us with a penalty stroke to take the lead with 5 minutes remaining. Ian scored the stroke which left us too keep it tight for the last 5. The last 5 minutes was back to Ashby's usual attacks, looking promising until the reached the 25 and then it all went wrong. Final score, Ashby 1 Derby Asterdale 2.
